What is Lifestyle Medicine?
Lifestyle Medicine is an evidence-based medical specialty that helps prevent, treat and even reverse chronic diseases naturally, through therapeutic lifestyle interventions. The six lifestyle areas it focuses on are – nutrition, physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, connectedness, and risky substance avoidance. This has been shown to positively impact 80% of chronic disease including cardiovascular and metabolic but also helps with fatigue, insomnia, joint pain, memory and menopausal symptoms:
Improve blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and BMI
Reduce risk of cognitive decline, musculoskeletal conditions, and certain cancers
Reverse coronary artery disease (CAD)
Lead to medication reduction and disease remission for type 2 diabetes
The six pillars of Lifestyle Medicine (as per the American College of Lifestyle Medicine – ACLM) are:
